It’s been an interesting first month blogging about Warcraft. In that time I’ve covered the patch changes, UI design and addon choices, quirky graphs and diagrams, and roleplay choices and ideas. I’ve also rambled on about my in-game experiences and achievements, and how those experiences have shaped my opinions. I’m still a noob though when it comes to this, so I thought it was time I turned to you for advice.
I’ve learned a lot about blogging and how being passionate about something doesn’t always translate into something that’s entertaining to read. I’ve tried a range of content to work out what people like to read, and it’s fun to find out what’s popular. Having said that, it’s been a bit of a scattergun approach – I tend to write about whatever comes into my head rather than staying focused in particular areas. The only thing that I’ve been focused on is the series on UI development (which is still ongoing).
Seeing as how it’s been a month since I started, I thought it would be an ideal time to ask for general feedback from you! What do you make of the story so far and what would you like to see more of? What doesn’t work so well for you, or would you like to read less? What would you like to become a regular item on the blog?Ā Is there anything you’d like to see me tackle, or any question you’d like me to answer?
- More mage related stuff? Maybe more caster stuff in general?
- More roleplay, maybe even some stories or IC posts?
- More UI or addon discussions?
- More charts/graphs?
- More general experiences/opinion?
- Anything else?
I’d like this to be a conversation, so I’ll try and discuss any comments I get. If you prefer to contact me directly, you can always send an email to me@gazimoff.com. I read every email I get and respond to nearly all of them. I’ll be taking all feedback I get seriously, so that while it’ll still be fun for me to write it’ll also be more interesting for you to read. It’ll also mean that I can plan articles ahead so that they appear more regularly.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
Cheers!
I love reading about ‘mage stuff’ as it reminds me of my first love and technical main character who is a mage š The poor thing has been slightly abandoned of late due to my immense love of healing on my priest and druid. Time for mages to get a healing tree?!
Saying that, I find the good thing about reading lots of blogs is that I get perspectives and ideas about things I wouldn’t normally think about.
Honestly, I think you should write what you feel most comfortable writing, rather than what others want you to write. Personally, I struggle to read posts about classes I don’t really know, but, if you want to write more magey stuff, do! It’s your space, your rules š
I’d stick with your current mix. I was amazed that you’d only been blogging for a month – this feels like a blog that’s been going for ever!
I agree with Jaedia and Sven – you’re developing your own voice as a blogger, and there’s no hard and fast rule that says you can only talk about Thing X once you decide that Thing X is your topic. Allow yourself the freedom to write about what’s on your mind, let your voice develop further (it’s a good one, you have a knack for blogging, especially for this blog only being 1 month old!), and people will enjoy reading it.
Don’t force it, and I have no doubt that you’ll continue to enjoy blogging and that your posts will be enjoyed by the community.
@Len
I agree – it’s why I read a lot of blogs as well. It’s great to get a new perspective on things! I think I’ll always write from a Mage point of view, but I don’t think it’ll always be just about mages.
@Jaedia
I think that I’ll keep to a Mage perspective, but continue writing about various things that grab my eye. I might even start using more categories š
@Sven
Thanks! I’ll take that as a compliment š
@Anna
I appreciate your words. You’re right, I’m still feeling my way here. I guess that in time I’ll have a better idea of my strong points and build content around it. I’ll avoid trying to force content though – I don’t want to get to the point where I feel I *have* to make a post.
I do enjoy the UI/addons & the roleplay posts. But I’ll say the same thing whenever people ask me best warlock spec to level as: do what you want. š
My blog was originally purely a Hunter blog, after a little time I ran out of stuff to say. I try to keep a Hunter perspective on things, though I think I’m a little past being specifically a Hunter blog now. So I know what you mean, just keep doing what you do! š
I’ll get round to finishing the UI series, although I’m spacing them out at about once a week at the moment. I figure that’s a good way of ensuring that it doesn’t become overloaded
There’s probably going to be more roleplay posts in the future, although I don’t think I’ll start posting IC stories š
